On April Fools Day 2007, the band that would come to be known as Harlend was officially off and running. The band was formed out of Lima, OH by founding members Justin Mackey, Zach Harmon and former guitarist, Matt Sawmiller. The vision was simple: Good music and a strong Kingdom message. Harlend released a self-titled EP in January 2008 and began touring steadily for the next several years. Just before its release, close friend and drummer, Brandon Suever, joined the band to complete their line-up.
In the Spring of 2011, the rock quartet from Northwest Ohio released their first full length project, Keep You, after facing several years of hardships and adversity. Keep You embodies the struggle the group endured, the quest for truth, and asks honest questions that arise during the journey of faith. "This is about seeing the world through a different lens…seeing the broken-hearted and outcasts through the eyes of compassion," says lead singer Justin Mackey, regarding the group's new project.
Keep You goes against the status quo of today's typical Christian music. The title track makes the arguably controversial statement, "Heaven is overrated if we're all going alone…" an idea that spawned out of the question that maybe we are here for more than just ourselves getting to the end of this life unscathed. But maybe our Creator put us here to bear one another's burdens for His glory in the here and now. Keep You not only offers the desired catchy melodies and strong hooks you can find in other popular music, but more importantly it presents a challenge to its listeners. It is a call to action, a call to love, and cry for revival. With massive guitars, pounding drums, thought-provoking lyrics, and gut-wrenching vocals, Harlend is a welcome addition to any iTunes playlist.
